ACME Apple Peeling Machine

Okay, this is not a food product. Repeat. This is not a food product. Get over it!

This is…a tool. The first of its kind here on Selective Elective. This is a kitchen utensil review—a review of this ACME Apple Peeling Machine. A blast from the past too because this thing is definitely older than I am. It’s vintage.

You may be asking: Why do I have this device?

Easy.

We were wandering around Goodwill (if you stalk my Google+ you know I love this place) and we saw it on a shelf, and we were like, this could be very useful. In the past, I tended to eat apples raw, skin and all, but due to digestion issues, I switched to cooked, peeled apples. Hand peeling apples is a pain, and this machine….well, it seemed like a solution.

And it is!

As you can see in the above videos (taken by a deft family member), the apple is positioned in a stake and a crank (not quite visible in the video but it is in the below picture) is turned to get the peeler to spin around the apple, thus peeling the skin off. It works surprisingly well and really speeds up the apple peeling process. Depending on the size and shape of the apple, it can miss a little to a lot of skin. Rotating the apple and trying again gets more of the skin off. It works surprisingly well.

It’s such a useful tool—a machine. I can’t believe it was sitting at Goodwill for like $3. Why isn’t this popular? Do others exist? Where do I get another if it breaks? I pray I don’t have to answer that question anytime soon while I eat peeled apples.

Anyway, if you peel apples constantly, I recommend this ACME Apple Peeling Machine. Unfortunately, finding it might prove troublesome. Though, in your quest, who knows what other bizarre vintage kitchen utensils you’ll find? I have no idea, but if you find anything else weird and cool, let me know!

Update 12/2019: Tweaked video layout, fixed some grammar issues, added video caption/attribution. Left G+ reference for posterity.
