Chevre Frais

This Chevre Fraise, a goat cheese, is from Prairie Fruit and Farms Creamery. It comes in a round plastic container with a little cute goat mascot on it. I like this packaging as it is easier to store, but opening the container was kind of difficult the first time. There is no seal or anything. Just the lid. The lid that was on super tight and I had to pry off with my fingertips, but I did and the contents revealed themselves to me,

The contents of the round container are a typical goat cheese. As you can see, it is both sticky and sort of flaky. I would say paste-like, but that can sound unappetizing to some. To me, that is good, but I digress. Soft and semi-sticky, as goat cheese usually is, this Chevre Frais crumbles with some effort and settles into your mouth with ease. The flaky, smooth quality of its body makes it wonderful to crumble over salads and other dishes.

It is also wonderful because it is so delicious. Tangy as expected, it also has this delicate sweetness that was not strong but it was potent. It was a delicate sweetness that captured my tastebuds. But because of its tang, it can work with salads and can be paired very well with balsamic vinegar. It also works well tomatoes with its creamy sweetness. This cheese has so much potential for pairing.

One such pairing that I have alluded to is tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. What I did with the Chevre Frais was make a bed of arugula, chop up some cherry tomatoes of various types, and then sprinkle some cheese on top of it.Tomato Chevre Frais

Then, to round it all out, I drizzled some balsamic vinegar on top of it.

This concoction was sublime. I loved it. I would make it again. Each flavor complimented each other. It wasn’t too heavy. It was a great side-salad to join in other parts of an entire meal. A good summer dish, I would say too, especially if you have fresh tomatoes like I did.

There are many uses for the Chevre Frais, like that dish, out there just waiting to be explored and consumed. The Chevre Frais goat cheese is versatile and delicious and works with so many different foods that is a must-try for eating and cooking.
