Luxardo Original Maraschino Cherries

Luxardo Original Maraschino Cherries are a brand of Italian candied cherries that are drenched in a rich syrup. These aren’t anything like the sweet, bright red maraschino cherries you might commonly find in grocery stores. They are black, rich, and not quite sweet. Also they clearly say they are “ideal for cocktails”.

The back of the jar explains how to store it and its origin.

If you open and look inside the jar, all you’ll see is this black syrup punctuated by the nebulous forms of cherries. The cherries bled into the thick, sticky syrup. The cherries themselves are soft and rich textured. They aren’t sweet flavored at all—maybe a little, but mainly they just taste…rich.

They’re really not supposed to be eaten as candy or as like a dessert item—they’re for drinks. I don’t partake in such drinks, so I can’t say if they do their job well, but I know from others that they do. The company/organization has been around for 200 years—they have to be doing something special and right to last all this time. If you’re into liquor products or related accessories, this is probably something to check out. Regardless, it’s a fascinating contrast to the maraschino cherries I’m used to, though.

This was an old Patreon request I finally got around to completing—thanks to my patrons and sorry for the delay!
