Otsego Tart Wild Apple

These Otsego Tart Wild apples were ones I picked up at a Wisconsin Farmer’s Market without knowing much about them. I couldn’t find anything online about them in a general search. But I found out a lot by trying them!

What did I find out…well, that their name is completely accurate. They are tart. These tiny apples are a ball of crunchy tartness. When I say tart, I mean tart. Like so tart you can’t even finish them almost because they are so sour-tart intense.

But I did on multiple occasions. Because the Otsego Tart Wild, despite being so tart, are somehow addictive and exhilarating to eat plain. The crunchiness also helps—texturally they are spot on for their flavor. It’s a complete picture in an apple. A picture of tartness.

So I’ve rambled on how tart and strong they are…. which is both a plus and a minus. But entirely a reason to recommend. It’s fun to experience the reaction of such a food—and to see others react too! Also great if you’re into tart things, obviously.
