OWYN Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder

I tried OWYN’s chocolate vegan protein powder and thought it was pretty good, then tried the KOS Vanilla protein powder and thought it was great in smoothies, so I decided to try OWYN’s vanilla protein powder—maybe the vanilla flavor would elevate the OWYN protein powder product to the next level.

2 Scoops = 140 calories, 20g of protein

It did not—not at all. It neither smells nor tastes like vanilla. Its smell was very off putting for me—like strangely nutty and…kind of foul. Maybe burnt vanilla? I don’t know. I was very turned off by it…but I decided to try it in a smoothie anyway. Just to see how it’d go—smell is not everything. It did not go well. It tasted awful and I dumped it out. It was just…not good. Had to eat a Vukoo Bar as substitute for my meal the day I tried it since I was out of KOS.

The powder itself

So…given that I was not going to use it personally in any way, we tried it in banana muffins. The off flavor was hidden well enough. I am not sure what baked good we’ll try next with it, but that’s the only way we’re going to be able to use it. I ordered more KOS powder for my morning smoothies and will probably be sticking with it for long while. It works and tastes great. I don’t want to experiment again after this experience.

So…I do not recommend OWYN’s Vanilla flavor vegan protein powder at all. It doesn’t taste like vanilla and it doesn’t smell nor taste good either.
